SUMMARY:After the COP of Truth: Putting Climate Information Integrity into Action in Canada
DESCRIPTION:In an era of mis- and disinformation, this panel explores how information integrity is essential for effective climate and public health action.\n	\nExtreme weather events in Canada and globally have been accompanied by false narratives—arson conspiracies during wildfires, climate science denial, and coordinated efforts to delay solutions. These campaigns are driven by interest groups and amplified by digital platforms that profit from confusion, division and delay. \n	\nLeaders from public health, human rights and civil society will expose industry strategies that pollute the information space, and share proven approaches to protect information integrity. The health sector offers valuable precedents: requiring conflict of interest disclosures in scientific publications and policy forums, and institutional safeguards such as WHO’s Framework of Engagement with Non-State Actors (FENSA), which sets clear protocols for transparency and distances policy from incompatible industries including arms and tobacco. \n	\nSpeakers will present new findings from Canada’s first comprehensive study on climate disinformation and its impacts, highlight emerging global frameworks—such as the UN’s Global Initiative for Information Integrity on Climate Change —and explore how Canada can build resilience against climate disinformation through evidence-based ecosystem monitoring, governance, international cooperation, and stronger information integrity standards.
